Dear Brethren,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I write to you today regarding the June 21, 2008 Bicentennial Event to be held in Columbus, Ohio. This event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with a parade down High Street from Nationwide Boulevard to the Ohio State House, where the reenactment of the cornerstone ceremony for the Statehouse will occur. Afterwards, all are invited to the Ohio Historical Society for fellowship and lunch.

Please plan to attend and show your support and spirit for our Bicentennial by having your unit participate in the parade. There are five award categories for the parade, so please be original and plan to participate and give your unit’s best effort:

  1. Best Themed Entry: Entry best emulating the theme “Pioneers to Astronauts--200 Years of Free Masonry”
  2. Best Musical Entry: Entry providing the best musical performance and/or accompaniment
  3. Most Entertaining Entry: Entry providing the most crowd interaction and entertainment
  4. Peoples Choice: Entry selected by ballot from the Reviewing Stand
  5. Grand Master’s Award: Awarded by the Grand Master for the best overall entry

The parade details are as follows:

  • Registration for the parade will begin in mid-February and continue until May 15th
  • Registration forms must be submitted prior to the May 15th deadline
  • Transportation from the Ohio Historical Village to the parade site is currently being arranged. More details, including staging areas and pick-up and drop-off, will be mailed to you three weeks prior the parade.
  • Plan to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. (Location to be determined)
  • Arrangements have been made with local companies in Columbus for units to rent floats, horse drawn carriages, etc. for the day of the parade. Information available through the contact information shown below.
